About the project
Managing an online store involves endless tasks like tracking sales, updating inventory, handling payments. For merchants on our platform, these tasks were made harder by an admin interface that felt cluttered and overwhelming. Many struggled with dense dashboards, unclear navigation, and features that prioritized technical complexity over real-world usability.
My team's goal was to build a design system that simplified merchant's workflow - one flexible enough to handle everything from small product updates to intricate payment integrations. By focusing on clarity and consistency, we aimed to turn frustration into focus, giving merchants tools that supported rather than hindered their work.
Project execution
We designed the system starting with foundational components: buttons, tables, and forms. Each element was tested with merchants to ensure usability, not just aesthetics.
Accessibility was core to every decision - clear contrast, keyboard navigation, readable typography - so the system worked for everyone, regardless of ability. For data-heavy pages like dashboards, we organized information into smaller sections, avoiding clutter while keeping critical metrics upfront.
I worked closely with developers to reuse existing code where possible, saving time without cutting corners. After some time, we were able to start using our system, that’s now the backbone of the admin experience, helping merchants manage their stores without the stress and headaches.
